IKIP SARASWATI TABANAN


IKIP Saraswati Tabanan offers an Indonesian language course for foreign. The program is known as BIPA, which stands for Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing. The course is comprised of the following: speaking, listening, writing, reading as well as culture classes. The program is offered as a one semester course or, alteranatively, can be taken in the form of one-on-one classes. A formal class normally follows a fixed timetable while private tuition can be arranged to meet the student’s needs. There are no specific requirements to join this program but the Indonesian language test will be carried out in order to identify the student’s level of Bahasa Indonesia.
The program has 3 level courses and each level is a term long course:
1.       An elementary level is for those, who have minimum knowledge or have not previously studdied Bahasa Indonesia.
2.      An intermediate level is for those, who already have the basic knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia and wish to communicate well in various daily life situations, speaking Bahasa Indonesia.
3.      An advanced level is the final level of the course and is designed for those who wish to achieve fluency in Bahasa and/or has special interest in Indonesia for the purposes of conducting a research, doing business or living in Indonesia

PROGRAMS AND LENGTH OF STUDY
            Each year, BIPA Program is divided into 2 programs, which are:

A. REGULAR PROGRAM (BIPA REGULAR)
The Regular Program takes 4 months, and is held from January to May and August to December. Classes are scheduled 4 days a week: Monday to Thursday, 9.00-12.30 WITA. The course covers speaking, reading, listening, writing, vocabulary, and culture. A minimum of three students is required to start the course.
Additionally, BIPA provides extracurricular activities such as Balinese dance, gamelan, Angklung bamboo and cooking classes. Participants are invited to learn more about Balinese life and are regularly taken on exciting trips to neighboruring villages, temples and other places of interest.
It is important to note that Tabanan, contrary to other tourist-loved spots in Bali, is uniquely Balinese. Here, you are have a perfect opportunity to make friends with locals and constantly practise your Bahasa Indonesia skills.

B. Darmasiswa RI
Darmasiswa RI program is a non-degree scholarship program offered by the Indonesian government to foreign students from countries, which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia, arts, music, crafts and otgher subjects in 46 selected higher education institutions across Indonesia. IKIP Saraswati has been providing this program since 1996. This program is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
The main purpose of this program is to increase and foster interest in Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture across the world. It has also been designed to enhance mutual understanding and provide stronger cultural link among different countries.
A one year program runs from September  to August. Classes are scheduled four days a week, Monday to Thursday from 08.30 -- 13.00 WITA. The Darmasiswa program follows the same curriculum as the Regular Program.
